Mozambique’s Tax Authority (Autoridade Tributária de Moçambique) has announced the introduction of an electronic application system for Tax Clearance Certificates (Certidão de Quitação Fiscal), marking another step in the country’s drive to modernise public services and improve access to tax administration.
According to Communiqué No. 7/2026, issued by the Tax Authority’s Office of Communication and Image, the new service will become available from 3 August 2026 through the Taxpayer Portal (Portal do Contribuinte), accessible at the Mozambican tax portal.
The initiative enables taxpayers to request a Tax Clearance Certificate online, eliminating the need for in-person visits and streamlining the application process.
The Tax Authority stated that applications submitted through the portal will be processed within 10 working days. Should the certificate not be issued within that period, taxpayers may submit a complaint via reclamacao_quitacao@at.gov.mz for further review and processing by the relevant authorities.
The announcement forms part of Mozambique’s broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to modernise tax administration while making essential public services more efficient and accessible for individuals and businesses.
In the communiqué, the authority noted that the new service demonstrates its commitment to modernisation by improving taxpayers’ access to tax services, offering greater convenience and contributing to a more favourable business environment.
The Tax Clearance Certificate is an important document for businesses and individuals, serving as proof that tax obligations have been fulfilled. It is commonly required when participating in public procurement, securing licences, applying for financing, or conducting various commercial and regulatory transactions.
The communiqué was issued in Maputo and signed by Haydn Joyce David, Director at the Tax Authority’s Office of Communication and Image.
The launch of the electronic application platform reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to digitise public services, reduce administrative bottlenecks and strengthen service delivery for taxpayers across Mozambique.
