Africa’s energy sector is undergoing a rapid transformation, driven by renewable energy deployment, expanding regional markets and strategic public-private partnerships. Industry leaders will showcase their strategies at the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025 conference, set for September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town.

Genesis Energy Group has partnered with Saudi Arabia’s Desert Technologies to accelerate distributed solar projects across Africa. The agreement covers joint project development and transfers, adding to Genesis Energy’s 4.5 GW pipeline, which includes a 334 MW system for Nigeria’s Port Harcourt Refinery, a 1 GW rollout in the West African Economic and Monetary Union, the Lagos Green Hydrogen Park, and a $10 billion renewable platform. Chairman and CEO Akinwole Omoboriowo will detail the company’s investment strategy at AEW 2025.

The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) has also reported a surge in regional power trade. In February 2025, market turnover rose 103% to $16.3 million, with traded volumes nearing 120 GWh. Coordination Center Manager Stephen Dihwa will discuss SAPP’s role in enhancing cross-border electricity integration and its investment outlook.

In Gabon, the state-owned Gabon Power Company is advancing the 125 MW Owendo gas-to-power plant with Wärtsilä and has completed the first phase of the Plaine Ayémé solar plant, set to generate 30 MW and supply power to 300,000 homes. CEO Philippe Ossoucah will outline the projects’ contributions to Gabon’s electrification strategy.

Nigeria’s Levene Energy is expanding across gas distribution, renewables and infrastructure, with projects including low-carbon pipelines, solar PV manufacturing and rural electrification. Omobola Omofaiye, General Manager of LPV Technologies, will highlight how its integrated model supports industrial growth and last-mile access.

“Africa’s energy sector is at a pivotal moment,” said Tomás Gerbasio, African Energy Chamber VP, “where partnerships and investments are unlocking long-term, scalable solutions.”
